This shoot was a crazy one!
Zach Trinca and I have worked with Sarah Edwards for some time now. We filmed her the year previous and I also shot some fashion photographs with her for a brand she’s involved with. Awesome and incredible woman that jumps into a race car powered by a jet engine and puts on one of the best shows in motorsports.
Last year we all traveled out to Ohio for the first ever proper jet dragster race. Generally these cars are used for fan excitement and a way to entertain people at traditional drag races. They are like on track fireworks. But because of that, the races are often just for show as well. This day was different. Jet dragster teams were finally facing off in a proper bracket and proper racing format. They gathered as many teams as possible to go head to head all day long.
There were countless challenges for us. Most notably the physicality of filming all day long in direct sunlight on a hot hot summer day. We also didn’t know the outcome, so crafting our story we had to be keen to pickup extra details and extra quotes that may form the story depending on the outcome of the day. But that doesn’t mean we didn’t have fun. We raced around the track for hours and hours grabbing all kinds of amazing content and on the spot interviews.
This footage was also used in a HIstory channel episode featuring Sarah Edwards.
Zach Trinca directed and edited the piece while he and I both camera operated for the entire day of the races.
